Mobile broadband provider launches 'dongle amnesty'
Friday 17th July 2009, by Daniel King
Consumers with mobile broadband dongles are being encouraged to hand over their old devices and opt for a new contract that includes a free replacement USB.
O2 announced its first ever amnesty of the items will take place in Manchester for a fortnight and will invite people to consider the benefits of their latest contract options.
Users of rival mobile broadband service providers can wander into any of the network's retail outlets in the city and collect an O2 Pay & Go dongle between July 17th and 30th.
The firm added that by doing this it is also hoping to get across to people that its offering is one of the simplest ways to enjoy the web while out and about, as well as being an affordable and consumer-friendly option.
Jonathan Earle, head of Pay Monthly at the company, said some providers had been slow to get services and customer experience levels up to par, but this was something it had been able to achieve.
"We believe that O2 Mobile Broadband provides the best quality service available but we don't want to just say it, we want people to try it for themselves," he added.
"[Our amnesty gives] other mobile broadband users the chance to give us a try without having to commit to a lengthy contract."
Consumers looking to switch their wireless web provider have a range of services to choose from - including those from 3 Mobile, Vodafone and Orange - and an online comparison facility may help them finalise their decision.
