People 'should not get stuck on expensive tariffs'

Consumers need to consider the fact that broadband packages have changed and as such they may be paying too much for their current services, according to a spokesman for broadband.co.uk.
Edd Dawson, editor of the site, explained that some people who signed up to a new internet contract a few years back may feel they are happy with their deal - but might not be if they see what else is on offer.
He said many people wait until they move house before they look at the cost of their gas, electric, phone and internet costs - but this is something that should be considered more frequently.
Mr Dawson went on to say that consumers may be paying the same rate they originally signed up to and in most cases providers have brought prices down annually - meaning those who do not check the market could be losing out.
"People get stuck on a tariff and can find they are paying twice or sometimes three times as much as they could be," he added.
In addition, it was noted that faster download speeds and more generous data limits mean the quality of the package many people have could also be due for an upgrade - and in many cases changing can be quite simple.
"They can just re-sign up to a new contract with their current supplier. People can often find they can save money and get an increased service," he concluded.
His comments follow the publication of a Consumer Choices report, which found that 50 per cent of British broadband users had not switched web providers in four years.
