Savvy consumers 'will always seek out best broadband deals'

When it comes to ensuring the best possible internet services at the most affordable price, it is usually the savviest customers that are keen to search around for the best deals, one expert has claimed.

A spokesman for broadband.co.uk, a group that was set up in 2004 as a means to provide consumers with independent advice on upgrading or setting up new web connections, explained that people are increasingly looking to limit their spending.

Edd Dawson, editor of the online resource, said many homemakers are considering the various products and utilities they now have to pay for - and the smartest are not afraid to compare what is available to them.

He noted that with problems in the housing market and the ongoing effects of the global economic slowdown, less people are taking the initiative to change their internet service provider.

"The financially savvy ones will always look, but the majority of people do tend to look at things when they move house - and as people aren't moving house anymore there is a drop in people looking to switch," he said.

Mr Dawson added that some may be worried about what type of contract they have but went on to say there was a lot to be gained from shopping around for the best broadband deal.

Recent reports from BT revealed that super-fast fibre internet would soon be available in 1.5 million homes across the UK - a number it hopes to reach by early summer 2010.
