Internet service provider (ISP) TalkTalk has announced that more people have opted for its broadband service in the first quarter of 2010.

Figures from the company show that its 4,197,000 userbase in the last quarter of 2009 grew to 4,231,000 in the three months afterwards.

More than three-quarters of users (77 per cent) opted for the cheapest bundle, ISPReview.co.uk reported.

Charles Dunstone, chairman of the TalkTalk, was quoted by the news provider as paying: "I regard this as a very solid performance; we maintained our momentum in the broadband market, as our brand and tariffs continued to appeal to customers seeking straight-forward, value-for-money broadband and voice services."

The company is currently working on a move into the mobile broadband arena and Mr Dunstone added that the quarter was work-intensive for all staff thanks to the integration of Tiscali.

Internet service provider Virgin Media recently announced that it is set to trial a superfast broadband service in the Welsh village of Crumlin, near Caerphilly, with more than one million homes in and around the area to benefit from the move.
