Importance of broadband in education revealed

Importance of broadband in education revealed New research by broadband provider Talk Talk has shown that 70 per cent of parents believe that their children get a better education because of the internet.

The survey also showed that 64 per cent think that the government is under obligation to ensure all children have access to the internet at home.

Managing director of TalkTalk David Thatcher remarked: "Our research suggests that parents and children are already in agreement about the importance of broadband in their education."

Adding to the debate, BBC development executive for new media Hendrik Ball told the Guardian that of the role the corporation is playing in the schools broadband revolution.

"Broadband lets us deliver video as well as the usual web content such as audio, text and graphics, and that's exciting," he explained.

However, RM business manager Tim Clark has estimated that broadband services could cost schools £10,000 per year.
