The Carphone Warehouse's free broadband package Talk Talk has been voted onto the Scrooge of the Year list by readers of the Times.
The nomination came after Talk Talk struggled to meet the heavy demand for its service, but the company has vowed that things will be different in the future after its initial problems.
A Carphone Warehouse spokesperson told the newspaper that although there had been problems with the industry service levels, ''next year we intend to become the leader in customer service, as we are with the customer offer''.
Other companies on the list included First Direct, in relation to its new charge on some current accounts, and Royal Mail for an alleged bad service.
Carphone Warehouse has been awarded several awards in the past year, including the Business Excellence Award from Retail Week.
