Broadband company TalkTalk, part of the Carphone Warehouse, has spoken out against calls from the music industry to tackle piracy.

Charles Dunstone from the company commented after the BPI - which acts on behalf of UK music - said that internet service providers (ISPs) should disconnect customers who share music, reports the BBC.

He explained that he considered the requests unreasonable, as providers are not policemen, while the BPI has said that customers should be educated on the issue.

"I cannot foresee any circumstances in which we would voluntarily disconnect a customer's account on the basis of a third party alleging a wrongdoing," said Mr Dunstone.

Plans for further control of the internet have also been reported on the BBC, as the home secretary has called for sex offenders to be banned from social networking sites to protect children.

The moves could make broadband users with children feel safer as there websites such as MySpace, Bebo and Facebook are being asked to minimise risks to young people.
