TalkTalk's dedication to Race Online 2012 'amazing'
Thursday 10th June 2010, by Daniel King
Internet service provider (ISP) TalkTalk has been praised for its efforts in the Race Online 2012 campaign.
The initiative was formed by Martha Lane Fox, the UK's digital champion and founder of lastminute.com, in an attempt to bring the web to the ten million people around the country who have never been on the internet in their lives.
To try and cut down on that whopping figure, it aims to get four million people online by 2012 and is enlisting various companies and organisations to offer a helping hand.
So far, its partners include the likes of Citizens Advice, BT, Sky and Skype.
And TalkTalk, of course.
Commenting on how much the ISP has done so far, Ms Lane Fox said: "TalkTalk's dedication and commitment to helping achieve a fully networked nation has been amazing. Through a variety of customer-facing initiatives, TalkTalk aims to get a staggering 100,000 new users online by 2012."
It will attempt to provide web connections to these people through the Pass IT on scheme, which will offer discounted broadband to those who complete a computer course at UK online centres.
Writing on the TalkTalk blog, Ms Lane Fox added Race Online is asking growing numbers of associations to get involved and become a partner in the run-up to the publication of its Manifesto for a Networked Nation.
The document will suggest the lives of millions will be improved by focusing on IT infrastructure we already have in communities.
What do you think about the scheme?
Will it succeed?
