A "crucial" year for Tiscali

Monday 28th January 2008, by Daniel King

Despite concerns that the company will eventually be bought out, Tiscali's chief executive Tommaso Pompei told the Financial Times that he would continue to focus on results and said that the broadband provider is not for sale.

In the interview, Mr Pompei discussed the future of the company, which is currently the UK's fourth largest broadband supplier after buying Pipex in 2007.

"This year is crucial for our company because, as anticipated, it will be a turnover of the new strategy and the new plan, with important financial results to be achieved," said Mr Pompei.

However, he added that the future could involve consolidation and that Tiscali was prepared to "consider alternatives" which could include being bought by another broadband provider.

Tiscali recently reversed a software installation which reduced bandwidth with "traffic management" during peak times, which had prompted complaints from customers unable to access sites such as iTunes, reported the Register.
