Expert advises comparing broadband packages

Wednesday 29th April 2009, by Daniel King

Broadband providers across the UK are in fierce competition with one another to provide the best packages and poach each others customers, a new article has advised.

In a piece for the Independent this week, Jimmy Lee Shreeve looks at some of the best value deals that are currently available from firms like Sky, BT, Tiscali and Virgin, suggesting now may be a good time to compare what they have to offer.

He states that all of the telecoms providers are now involved in a fierce battle to get people on board with their triple-play deals involving broadband internet, telephone and television - adding this is "great news for consumers" looking to save money.

One example offered by Mr Shreeve is Tiscali's multimedia package that charges less than £20 per month, another is Virgin Media's latest that includes a free sim card for use with your mobile phone.

"Going with a single provider rather than two or three also has the advantage of the billing being in one place, which can make it easier to budget and keep track of costs when it comes to paying," he explains.

Swapping from individual TV, phone and broadband providers may also prove beneficial should you ever require any technical assistance or repairs - as speaking with one call centre is much more preferable to having to deal with three.

"Each service has its own merits," Mr Shreeve concludes, "and which deal you choose depends on your needs, as well as your budget."

This week, BT announced it would be offering broadband packages that start at £15.65 per month.
