TalkTalk advises on online discounts

By Tim Bisley (Wed, 24th June 2009)

TalkTalk has offered some advice for its UK broadband customers who are looking to make savings by surfing the web for the latest deals.

In an article posted on the company's official blog, freelance journalist and guest writer Emma Lunn says there are definitely some bargains to be found using the internet, but adds people should always weigh up the alternatives.

She draws particular attention to the number of discounts and special offers that online retailers are currently providing broadband users in the form of redeemable vouchers and says these all work in different ways.

Whether it is money off electrical goods, discounts on chocolates or deals on baby clothes, the trend for offering consumers an incentive in this manner is growing.

"The discounts work in two main ways," Ms Lunn explains. "Either they're a voucher that can be printed and taken into the store and handed over when you get to the till, or they are codes that can be used to shop online."

However, she recommends heading to the various online portals that host details of such money-saving initiatives and checking all of the small print before making a final purchase.

Recently, managing director of MyVoucherCodes Mark Pearson said there was never a better time to seek out discount codes and savings vouchers on the internet, as the recession had "really played a big part" in forcing retailers to encourage shoppers to hand over their cash.

For some, price comparison websites offer a great way to see what the best deals are on products like broadband and mobile phones.
