TalkTalk reveals new scheme for home movers

Tuesday 26th May 2009, by Daniel King

TalkTalk has announced details of a new service which aims to make life easier for its customers should they need to move their broadband connection to a new property.

It was revealed this week that the phone and internet company, which is a part of the Carphone Warehouse group, will provide access to a way of making reconnection to the web one of the easiest parts of transferring home.

For £29.99, existing TalkTalk customers can use the Home Mover Service and new clients will need to pay £59.99.

This allows the user to let the company get on with the process of changing their broadband over to a new property "taking the hassle out of the situation for customers".

It is noted this is "significantly" lower than the £120 fee incurred when people need to pay BT if they move to an area not supported by a cable connection.

TalkTalk explained that in these situations, its customers would often have to end their existing contract, join BT's 12-month facility and then change it back to their services immediately - a process it referred to as "arduous".

Wendy Becker, managing director at the telecommunications provider, said the move was about value.

"Customers have more than enough to worry about when moving home, so we're pleased to be able to take the hassle – and a lot of the cost – out of the process of getting your home phone and broadband up and running," she added.

TalkTalk recently announced it would be incorporating Tiscali's various services into its own business once the acquisition of the firm was complete.
