TalkTalk trials 40 Mbps broadband

By Noel Mellor (Mon, 3rd August 2009)

TalkTalk has announced details of its latest high-speed broadband trial that it hopes will be able to offer those taking part services with a rate of up to 40 Mbps.

It has emerged that by using the latest in fibre optic technology, the company will be testing for its latest product to residents of the Muswell Hill area of London and the Whitchurch region of Cardiff.

The scheme will begin this month and run until January next year, with those involved receiving a brand new router and modem as part of the company's Essentials phone and broadband package.

Not only will people taking part be given this for free, they will also have an unlimited download limit to allow TalkTalk to see how successful the 40 Mbps service is.

It is hoped that if all goes well the internet service provider - which earlier this year added Tiscali to its network - it could form part of a wider plan to get similar speeds to all of its UK users.

TalkTalk also announced this week it had entered a new deal with FremantleMedia Enterprises and ITV to become the sponsor of one of the broadcaster's biggest prime time entertainment shows.

During breaks, viewers will see the company brand attached to popular TV talent show the X Factor when it returns to screens later this year.

Olivia Streatfeild, Marketing Director at TalkTalk, said: "We are really excited to kick off our sponsorship of the nation's favourite entertainment programme and we can't wait to bring the magic of The X Factor to our four million customers."
