Tiscali and BT in broadband row

Tiscali and BT in broadband row

(Fri, 18th July 2008)

A war of words has broken out between Tiscali and BT over the former's provision of home broadband services.

BT had told Tiscali customers that their broadband provision may be in doubt. Tiscali has responded by threatening to take legal action against BT.

A letter, with the headline 'Tiscali chief plots sell-off', was sent to customers of Tiscali and Pipex. It continues by inviting customers to switch to an alternative provider.

There are also concerns as to how BT Retail managed to get hold of the details of Tiscali broadband users.

Earlier this month, Tiscali, which is Italy's largest internet service provider, denied reports that it would be sold off by mid-August.

Tiscali has been looking for a buyer since Mario Rosso took over as chief executive officer in February.

In June, the Financial Times reported that Vodafone had decided against bidding for Tiscali.
