Broadband provider Tiscali has finally signed a deal with Irish broadcaster Setanta to offer three sports channels on its newly launched Tiscali TV service.
Tiscali, which has almost 1.5 million broadband users in the UK, has signed the deal after months of negotiations with Setanta and will allow its customers to watch live Premier League football for an extra £9.99 per month.
The cable TV service launched by Tiscali can currently be accessed by up to five million homes, with plans to roll out the service to another five million by the end of the year. Tiscali is targeting viewers who want more than the basic free channels available on Freeview but do not want to pay for a full satellite or cable service.
Mary Turner, chief executive of Tiscali UK, said: "Tiscali is always looking to add exciting new TV content to our service and this is a great new option for our sports fans."
In July, Tiscali announced the acquisition of rival broadband company Pipex, in a deal worth £210 million. The purchase increased Tiscali's customer base by 500,000.
