Some Tiscali customers are being disconnected from the Playstation gaming network during peak periods, according to latest reports.
It is thought the problem comes when the British and Italian internet service provider (ISP) uses a streaming method called 'traffic shaping', which attempts to distribute bandwidth more evenly when demand is high, reports PC Pro.
But this is a technique common to other major broadband providers, who have not experienced similar difficulties.
Tiscali said it is aware of the ongoing issue and confirmed that Windows Messenger customers were also affected by the same problem and assured that its engineers were working to solve it.
The ISP stated: "We are however unable to commit any timescale as when the migration will complete.
"Please note that this is not a major issue and is only affecting a handful of customers."
The firm has 3.5 million customers in the UK and Italy and has recently launched a new offer of unlimited broadband for £9.99 for the first three months (£12.99 thereafter), including free weekend and phone calls.
