Small businesses 'still lack broadband'
Monday 5th November 2007, by Daniel King
Many small businesses in the UK still lack a broadband connection, according to new research.
Broadband provider UK Online found that 23 per cent of small businesses do not have access to high-speed internet, which could harm the growth of their business, ISPreview.co.uk reports.
Along with the Institute of Directors, the internet service provider has started a campaign to raise awareness of broadband among small businesses, highlighting the advantages of taking up the service.
Chris Stening, managing director of UK Online, told the news provider: "Being online nowadays is fundamental as the internet has placed almost unlimited information and choice in the hands of the consumer.
"Not having a website, even a basic site which describes your business and provides contact details, is a serious omission as the first thing most people do now is Google for what they want."
Last week, fellow broadband provider BT launched a new privacy system for small businesses as part of its Small Business Week.
