Broadband provider Virgin Media has announced that it will be offering a free upgrade to customers on a 4 Mb service, meaning they will be given a 10 Mb by next month.
Virgin Media also announced that a top-tier service, which will have speeds of up to 50 Mb, is to be launched nationwide after successful regional trials.
Acting chief executive Neil Berkett expressed his enthusiasm, saying: "We've barely scratched the surface of what's possible with our cable network and we will continue to look for new ways to satisfy the growing demand for even faster broadband in the UK."
The upgrade will be available for those on the company's "L" package, which offers speeds that allow music tracks to be downloaded in around ten seconds.
Virgin Media claim to be the most popular residential broadband provider in the UK, with the company boasting a total of ten million customers.
