Virgin Media and Sky broadband 'best for UK consumers'

British broadband users rank Virgin Media and Sky among their favourite providers, a new study has suggested, something which may be of interest to those of you who are thinking of picking a new package.
The survey, by analyst firm Satmetrix, found these two companies are now as regularly recommended to friends and family as businesses such as O2, Apple and Sony.
A range of organisations were given a Net Promoter Score, with high marks given to those which are popular through word of mouth.
Scores of between zero and ten were allocated, with performances of nine or more being described as active "promoters" by Satmetrix. The firm noted that Sky and Virgin Media both got ratings of between +9 per cent and +10 per cent.
This put them ahead of other providers in the sector, including BT, Orange, TalkTalk and AOL. General manager of the Net Promoter programmes at Satmetrix John Abraham said benchmarks such as this enable businesses to recognise the importance of consumer loyalty.
He remarked: "A company's ability to deliver a superior customer experience relative to its industry peers is a critical indicator of customer retention and new customer acquisition through positive word of mouth."
According to Mr Abraham, individuals are also able to use these results in order to make a more informed choice about the services they wish to purchase, as well as to get an idea of which companies offer the best customer satisfaction levels.
The news comes as Broadband Forum claimed there are now more than 484 million broadband customers in the world. So with an increasing number of people looking to up their internet speeds, this could be great news for Sky and Virgin Media, while other organisations may need to up their game.
