Virgin Media launches new kids telly event

By Brian Palmer (Fri, 29th May 2009)

Virgin Media has announced the launch of a new contest that could encourage consumers to consider switching to its package over the coming weeks.

The broadband, telephone and television services provider has revealed details of a competition to find a young controller for its broadcasts during the TV Takeover initiative it has planned for later this year.

It states the project will involve hunting down the right kid to take charge of its on-demand offering when the six-week holidays arrive and children's thoughts begin to turn to how they are going to relieve their boredom.

Presented by former Dancing On Ice star and Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon, the opportunity to pick and choose the available programming for the service will fall to two kids - a boy and a girl - for the duration of August.

Aged between seven and twelve years old, the winning entrants will be able to select their favourite shows from a host of content that includes Nickelodeon favourite SpongeBob SquarePants and Cartoon Network star Ben 10.

Nick Jr is represented by Bob the Builder and Angelina Ballerina and all of the above will be available to view at any time during the month.

Commenting on the announcement, Salmon said: "Virgin Media's TV Takeover is an amazing opportunity for kids in the UK to make this year’s summer one to remember. I wish everyone the best of luck."

The presenter made her Blue Peter debut in 2004 and shot her final show in summer 2008.
