Virgin Media offers mobile broadband on month-by-month basis

Virgin Media's mobile broadband - available on a month-by-month basis - has been listed among the developments driving the global industry forward.

Market analyst Tariff Consultancy explains that the "hybrid month-to-month service" provides access to mobile broadband without a continuing contract.

However, Virgin Media's offers to those people who do take out a contract could make mobile broadband easier to obtain for customers who are likely to use it over the long term.

Mobile users who sign up to an 18-month contract with the network are given a USB modem free of charge which allows instant broadband access.

Other customers can purchase the modems, which come complete with a 28-day money-back guarantee.

Virgin Media says that its mobile broadband covers 85 per cent of the UK - which could make it particularly suitable for people who travel regularly.

On a standard three-gigabyte deal, mobile users are able to surf the worldwide web for 100 hours, send 2,000 emails, download 200 music tracks and download 100 two-minute videos every month.

Tariffs can be set to match a person's desires - for example, a one-gigabyte contract offers 30 hours online, 35 tracks, 700 emails and 30 short videos.

Virgin Media's mobile broadband has won a string of positive reviews, with some citing its ability to deliver its promises on speed as particularly impressive.

With tariffs to suit anyone, a reliable and diverse product and a set of top-of-the-range handsets to choose from, signing up to a Virgin Media deal could be an attractive proposition to many mobile phone owners.

The network launched its new mobile broadband service in December, when it promised that its video allowance and technology would make it easier for customers to watch clips from popular sites such as YouTube and BBC iPlayer.
