Virgin Media offers Sky Anytime service

Friday 14th October 2011, by Simon White

Virgin Media has confirmed that Sky Anytime's hours of TV shows and films will now be watchable by people who subscribe to the broadband provider's home packages.

More than 6,500 hours of TV and movies will be supplied on demand by the service, which is powered by the company's fibre optic network.

People who are considering changing broadband provider may want to search through the firm's broadband and television packages in order to explore the benefits that could be offered to them.

This new content will be bundled into people's existing TV package at no extra cost, meaning that customers can enjoy programming such as the Sky Sports Collection, which provides coverage of the Barclays Premier League, UEFA Champions League and international cricket.

The roll-out process of Sky Anytime has already begun for customers who subscribe to the XL TV tier, who can now enjoy shows on channels such as Sky Living, Sky Arts and Sky News.

In addition, a range of new content will be accessible online through the broadband provider's Virgin Media Player service.

Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: "Virgin Media offers the most complete TV on-demand experience in the UK and is the perfect place for movie fans with over one thousand fantastic films available instantly on demand.

"The addition of Sky Anytime on Virgin Media forms part of our ongoing commitment to developing a compelling and complete digital entertainment service."

Virgin Media and Sky's agreement follows the news that Carlson and Neul are working in partnership to develop a white space radio networking system.

This technology aims to enhance broadband deals worldwide using unused portions of UHF spectrum for broadband.

Volume shipments of the service are scheduled before 2012.
