Virgin Media has reiterated its commitment to providing consumers across the UK with "quality and outstanding service".

The broadband provider said it plans to open more retail outlets and expand its presence on the high street, aiming to potentially triple its number of shops within a year.

It currently operates 27 own-branded stores and is unveiling two more in London during the next few months.

Neil Berkett is Virgin Media's chief executive officer and said the company has built a "strong customer base" and will further this by enabling more people to see the benefits of its offerings.

Managing director of consumer retail Peter Taddeo added that Virgin's broadband and TV services were central to family entertainment in Britain.

"This expansion will reinforce Virgin Media's presence at the heart of communities across the UK and provide a valuable contact point for existing and potential customers," he explained. "We have a number of exciting store openings planned."

Also planned for launch are a number of "retail-lite" outlets in shopping centres.

These are described as "shops without walls" and are intended to showcase Virgin Media's product line-up in the areas of TV, home phone, mobile and broadband.

Recent news from the provider included the introduction of new mobile tariffs.

The end of last month saw the company offer monthly contracts including one for £18 over 18 months.

A package costing £25 per month was also introduced. This incorporates unlimited web browsing.
