Virgin Media 'sorry' for service outage

Tuesday 8th December 2009, by Daniel King

Virgin Media customers in parts of east London may be considering switching broadband providers after the company was affected by an outage in the area during the last week.

The firm has apologised for any inconveniences the problem has caused households and businesses, and said that some people have been unable to access broadband or TV due to a commercial power failure in the EDF infrastructure.

Digital Spy reports that some subscribers have been without the services since November 28th.

"Due to a commercial power outage, some customers in areas of east London are currently without their Virgin Media broadband and TV services," a spokesperson for the firm was reported as saying.

The company representative added that the outage occurred in "an extremely traffic-sensitive area" of the capital, which means work required to restore the necessary power has been postponed.

Earlier this month, Virgin Media launched its new high-speed 7.2Mb mobile broadband USB modem, which it claims will make web browsing streaming video and checking email correspondence on the go "a breeze".

It is on the market with a range of contracts and data limits to choose from, which gives customers the opportunity to pick up a product that suits their individual needs.

Graeme Oxby, executive director of mobile at Virgin Media, suggested that mobile broadband "is the best way of staying connected on the move" for those away from home or out of wireless zone. He is also "thrilled" that Virgin Media is offering the new modem.
