Virgin Media updates traffic policy

Tuesday 11th December 2007, by Daniel King

Virgin Media has made changes to its traffic management policy that will take effect by early 2008.

The amendments will result in the relaxation of certain restrictions on how much data can be transferred for specific broadband packages during particular times by the top three per cent downloaders and uploaders.

For those on the M package, web users will see their broadband speeds temporarily lowered by Virgin Media if they download 300 MB or upload 150 MB of data between 16:00 and 21:00 GMT.

This will also be the case for L package subscribers who download 800 MB or upload 325 MB, and for XL broadband customers downloading 3GB or uploading 1.25GB of data during this peak period.

"Unless you're using an unusually large amount of information at peak times, we won't restrict your service and you can use to your heart's content," Virgin Media stated.

The M, L and XL packages carry the standard price of £18, £25 and £37 a month respectively.
