Vodafone joins tech forum

Vodafone joins tech forum Broadband provider Vodafone has recently announced that it has joined the WiMax Forum, which discusses issues relating to a new wireless broadband technology that boasts a longer range.

Vodafone stated that its stance on the new technologies would be impartial but earlier this year suggested that the wait for developing a new wireless standard was becoming too long, reports the Guardian.

Able to operate over a long distance, WiMax is a potential competitor for wireless technology long-term evolution – a project led by the mobile industry with the hope of acting as an upgrade to the 3G services currently available.

Global chief technology officer at Vodafone Steve Pusey said: "Our membership of the WiMax Forum will complement our existing memberships of other key industry bodies such as the GSMA, 3GPP and the Next Generation Mobile Network initiative."

The forum also recently announced that it had established offices in Japan and appointed a country director.
