Vodafone's high-speed packet access based mobile broadband service is now available to internet users in Reading.
The company claims that the service can offer download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps with uploads of 1.8 Mbps, reports ISP Review.
However, it is thought that in actuality the speeds will be closer to 2 Mbps for downloads as a result of varying coverage and network capacity.
Despite this, some early testing has found that Vodafone's 'real-world' speeds are better than those of its rivals, which are usually closer to 1 Mbps.
Alec Howard, head of PC connectivity at Vodafone UK told Getreading: "Mobile broadband can not only help grease the wheels of industry in Reading but is also ideal for students and new homeowners."
Vodafone's mobile broadband service costs £15 a month for three gigabytes of browsing and downloads. Connections to the internet are made through a USB Modem Stick.
