3 to double mobile broadband speeds

Mobile network operator 3 has told Techradar it is hoping to double mobile broadband speeds to 7.2 mbps over the summer.
A spokesperson from the service provider said that its network currently offers 3.6 mbps, which in real terms is about 1 mbps. Investment in the network could result in 2 mbps.
The spokesperson went on to say that the company is working on upgrading to 14.4 mbps and increasing capacity in order serve more users.
"Appetite for data is huge, so we have to have a sufficiently deep network, with the right amount of density and backhaul, to cater for all customers."
It was pointed out by the spokesperson that higher speeds mean the network becomes more sensitive.
"For instance, with 7.2 mbps you have to be within around 200 metres of a mobile mast to really get the top speeds."
In June, 3 launched Mobile Broadband Starter Kits for pay as you go customers, with varying amounts of pre-paid credit which can be used over three, 12 or 24 months.
