3UK reveals Wi-Fi for wheels plans

Thursday 8th April 2010, by Daniel King

So you're sat there in the car and you're so bored it's unbelievable.

It's another family holiday and you've just remembered that before all the fun and games, sunbathing and lounging around, you've got to put up with hour upon hour of listening to your dad's prog-rock CD collection and playing I spy with your little brother.

'If only I could get on the internet,' you think.

Well, it seems that your wishes could soon become a reality.

Because, according to the Gadget Show blog, 3UK has announced details of a new in-car Wi-Fi service that is set to be launched in the near future.

The plans were revealed at the Gadget Show Live - taking place from April 7th to 11th at Birmingham's NEC arena - it said, and relies on the network's innovative MiFi product.

It stated: "[3UK's] MiFi mobile hotspot is already a handy little service – essentially letting you create Wi-Fi hotspots for multiple gadgets to jump aboard wherever a 3G signal can be found."

"Now [3UK] has added this to its In-Car Wi-Fi kit. You'll get a MiFi, mains charger, car charger and windscreen holder so you can place it perfectly for keeping that 3G signal up," the blog added.

This looks really useful to me - especially the fact there is a car charger included, meaning you won't have to worry about running out of battery on those long journeys.

And those of you connecting to the web with smartphones will also benefit, by the looks of things.

What do you think about this? Thumbs up all round?
