Consumers look to wireless broadband

Consumers look to wireless broadband New research has revealed that consumers are increasingly making use of wireless broadband services.

The survey from local search firm m-spatial found that internet customers are relying on searches made via wireless broadband in locations such as coffee shops and airport lounges as a result of greater Wi-Fi provision.

During the first quarter of 2007, consumers were found to use wireless broadband for a range of different searches, with those for traffic cameras increasing by 100 per cent during the period.

Other popular searches included those for cinemas and live travel updates, both at home and elsewhere.

"The figures confirm that consumers are now realising the value of search, not only when in an unfamiliar area, but on a regular basis near home, when making familiar journeys and when planning a night out," commented Andy Walker, chief executive of m-spatial.

A recent report from telecommunications regulator Ofcom found that UK broadband take-up is on the rise, with 45 per cent of Britons having a connection at home in 2006 compared with 35 per cent in 2005.
