Kids 'will lap up mobile broadband' on Microsoft Kin
Wednesday 14th April 2010, by Daniel King
The new Microsoft Kin handset will lead to growing numbers of kids and teens making use of mobile broadband, an industry commentator has suggested.
According to Microsoft, the new device, which was announced earlier this week, is a Windows phone designed especially for those who want to access social media while on the move.
That's been achieved in part, the company stated, by the mobile's homescreen, which is constantly updating and brings together everything going on in the owner's social world, with feeds from Facebook, Twitter and MySpace going straight to the screen.
It aims to combine online services, the phone and the PC, it added.
And commenting on the news, James Sherwood, mobile expert at Mobilechoices.co.uk, said that the gadget should increase the number of youngsters accessing the internet remotely.
"Social networking is extremely popular and so designing mobiles that put the likes of Facebook and Twitter at the forefront of applications makes sense," he explained.
He added: "Centring Kin around social networking should make the range popular with children and teenagers."
Mobile broadband fans could be set for more choice again when it comes to mobile broadband, thanks to Nokia.
The mobile phone brand announced yesterday (April 13th) that it will launch three new, affordable smartphones in the second half of the year that are also focused on social networking and messaging.
All three will contain full QWERTY keyboards Wi-Fi connectivity direct access to sites like Twitter and Facebook.
What do you think about the new devices? Will they drive mobile broadband uptake?
