Mobile broadband 'easy for customers'
Consumers are attracted by simple broadband access on the go, claims a new survey.
Market research company YouGov discovered that one in eight mobile broadband users are opting to cancel their fixed-line connection or use 3G modems as an alternative to fixed landline internet access.
A further 64 per cent of those quizzed during the survey are using mobile access to supplement their current fixed broadband services.
The growing importance of online access means that consumers are keen to ensure they are never too far away from a broadband connection. However, despite being easy to set-up, there are concerns about the speed of some mobile services.
"Customers find mobile broadband easy to use and install, but transmission speeds and to a lesser extent network coverage, reduce the initial enjoyment of getting up and running," explained Marek Vaygelt, head of technology and telecommunications consulting at YouGov.
An Ofcom report recently revealed that sales of UK mobile phone datacards and dongles have increased from 69,000 to 133,000 per month from February to June this year.
Meanwhile, Vodafone is continuing to invest in its broadband network to extend its high-speed mobile service to cover six further UK cities - Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Reading.
