New broadband service launched by 02 Ireland

Friday 9th July 2010, by Daniel King

Irish internet users could be encouraged to switch service providers after 02 announced the launch of a new broadband service in the country.

The company has unveiled details of its new offering, which will see users charged €15 (£12.53) each month for 10GB usage and speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps.

02 said the wireless service will provide internet users with a alternative option to fixed broadband in the home.

Jude Lynch, sales director at O2 Ireland, said: "Last year O2 announced a major upgrade of its network in order to provide a powerful and reliable platform to deliver feature-rich services at speeds faster than those provided by fixed broadband networks and with the added advantage of mobility.

"We are delighted to now be in a position to bring the first of our broadband services to the market offering speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, ahead of those typically used on fixed line broadband services in Ireland today."

The launch follows the news that 02 is seen by its existing customers to be one of the UK's fairest organisations.

A recently-published report by research firm Brandspeak revealed that 80 per cent of 02 customers believe they are treated fairly.

This compared to 73 per cent of Orange customers and 63 per cent of those on the 3 network who said the same thing.

Existing 02 customers will benefit from the €15 price for three months before the firm ups the price to €30.

Newcomers will be offered prices of €20 for three moths before the price is again upped to €30 per month.
