Nokia acquisition 'to result in improved mobile internet by end of year'

Nokia's acquisition of Novarra is likely to be good news for mobile broadband users currently signed up to the telecommunications company.
By taking control of the remaining shares of the mobile internet browser provider, Nokia says it will be able to offer its customers an improved service.
In particular, it will use Novarra's mobile internet platform - which is already capable of producing connections for leading operators and internet suppliers across the world - to enhance its own offerings.
As well as significantly improving the functions and reliability of what it offers to mobile users, Nokia also identifies the takeover of Novarra as key to its long-term growth strategy.
Niklas Savander, executive vice-president of services at Nokia, says: "Connecting the next billion consumers to the internet will happen primarily on mobile devices and delivering an optimised internet experience on our devices is core to our mission."
Mr Savander adds the constant development of so many sectors of its business will enable Nokia to build one of the largest customer bases for web services.
He concludes: "Novarra's internet services technology delivered on the world's most widely-used mobile platform, Nokia's Series 40, will help us achieve this."
Nokia even expects the addition of Novarra to its portfolio to have produced results within months, claiming an upgrade to its mobile broadband offering will be available by the end of the year.
The investment in such a well-respected and reliable mobile internet platform as Novarra's could help the company go the extra step in its bid to become the world's dominant browser provider.
Nokia last month announced its latest phone release - the X6 - will offer mobile broadband to rival the iPhone.
