Nokia signs wireless broadband deal

Tuesday 11th December 2007, by Daniel King

Nokia customers will soon be able to make use of one of 7,500 wireless broadband hotspots across the UK following the signing of a new deal.

The manufacturer has formed an agreement with Wi-Fi provider The Cloud that will see users able to access the Nokia Music Store via a free wireless broadband connection, either through a standard computer or an eligible Nokia device.

Owen Geddes of The Cloud said the new deal would cater for the "immediacy" required by some music fans who might want to instantly download a track after hearing a recommendation, for example.

"If I am out and about and I hear a track in a shop or a friend recommends something, I want to be able to download it immediately - not wait until I get home," he commented.

The announcement comes weeks after mobile network operator Orange signed a deal to allow its customers to access The Cloud's hotspots through its own Wi-Fi Access Service package.
