Nokia Windows handsets set to for 'mid to high-end' incomes

Nokia's first handsets to feature Windows Phone 7 technology will be aimed at high-income consumers as well as people who are budgeting, it has been claimed.
The phone company will strive to keep price points low for the new devices by leveraging the tool's relationships, distribution and scale, a spokesman from ABI Research has suggested.
Michael Morgan, senior analyst of mobile devices at the market intelligence company, said: "I expect the first wave of Nokisoft handsets to be mid and high-end models of smartphones.
"The high-end versions will focus on best-in-class camera and video capabilities, and, possibly, although not likely, [there will be] a 4G device."
Nokia is expected to ensure that different colours of the device are available, as doing so would help the phone company to capture a higher amount of shelf space in the retail market, Mr Morgan also stated.
The representative also claimed that the smartphones will benefit from Microsoft's promotional power.
He said: "All of these smartphones will be given the hard sell using the billions from Microsoft on local marketing campaigns, but the handset will be designed for universal global appeal."
A study from ABI Research found that Nokia's share of the handset original equipment manufacturer's market fell from 39 per cent to 33 per cent last year.
This is despite the fact that the cumulative share held by producers of Android-based handsets increased from four per cent to 24 per cent.
Commenting on the research, Mr Morgan suggested that Motorola and Samsung are two businesses which will look to Android-enabled models as a means of boosting their revenue.
He said: "As competitors flood the Android ecosystem, Motorola wants to become known as the OEM that brings Android devices to business."
Meanwhile, he claimed that Samsung is hoping to convert its feature phone consumers to smartphones.
