O2 launches mobile broadband laptops

Friday 30th April 2010, by Daniel King

O2 has demonstrated its commitment to mobile broadband provision by unveiling two new laptops with in-built internet technology.

According to the network provider - which had 21 million customers and more than 50,000 fixed-line broadband subscribers as of September last year - its first embedded devices follow the successful steps the firm took into the laptop market in 2009.

These new devices - the Samsung N150 and Asus UL30A - however, go one step further, offering a "full service wrap".

Commenting on the news, Felix Geyr, head of home and broadband at O2, said: "We know that customers want to be able to click and go without the hassle of having to load up a mobile broadband dongle and our new range will make surfing the web and staying [in] touch even easier."

He added: "The laptop market has exploded in the last 18 months and we believe these two laptops from Asus and Samsung will once again give O2 customers a great experience."

So what do the laptops have to offer?

The Samsung N150, which is available to buy online and in O2 stores from today (April 30th), focuses on email, browsing and social networking and has a 250GB hard drive and 1GB memory.

It costs £25 per month, as well as a one-off payment of £29.99.

The Asus, on the other hand, is ultra thin, with a 320GB hard drive, 3GB memory and a very impressive, eight-second boot up in browsing mode.

And it's going to be slightly more expensive when released in May - 30 per month with an upfront payment of 79.99.

So it looks like O2 has really shaken up the mobile broadband market with these two computers and turned its back on the dongle.

What do you think about the products?
