Orange announces new mobile broadband iPad tariffs

Monday 10th May 2010, by Daniel King

Orange has placed mobile broadband at the heart of its offerings for the Apple iPad with a number of new tariffs for gadget lovers who want to purchase the device in the near future.

In case you didn't know, the iPad is kind of a mix between a miniature version of an iBook laptop and a larger version of the iPhone.

And Apple describes it as the "best way to experience the web".

That's because you can view whole internet pages in portrait or landscape on the Safari web browser, connect to Wi-Fi and check your emails on the move.

It has been revealed it's available to pre-order in the UK, too, eventually going on sale on May 28th.

As a result, Orange has announced plans for the iPad for customers in the UK, Spain, Switzerland and France.

The company stated: "Orange UK will offer tailored 3G data plans for iPad Wi-Fi and 3G, from [May 10th] and will launch a pre-registration site for SIMs at Orange.co.uk/iPad."

"Pay-as-you-consume, daily, weekly and monthly data plans will be available, providing the freedom to choose a type of plan depending on usage," it added.

As for pricing, the firm has decided to opt for a pay-for-what-you-use system, charging 5p for every megabyte of data accessed each month.

Or consumers can get various bundles, such as iPad Daily - available for one day until midnight at a cost of £2 - iPad weekly at £7.50.

In addition, iPad Monthly 15 and iPad Monthly 25 offer unlimited browsing at Wi-Fi hotspots, as well as varying levels of data access.

What do you think of the tariffs?

Will you be surfing the web on an iPad?
