Sony Ericsson moves into broadband market

Sony Ericsson moves into broadband market Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson has made its first moves into the broadband market by unveiling a new mobile broadband modem.

The MD300 USB modem allows users to access any wireless broadband point around the world and comes complete with PC software to enable easy browsing.

Aimed at busy professionals, the MD300 is the first in what is planned to be a long line of broadband products to be made by the handset manufacturer. It has Microsoft Windows software and drivers built in and can support GPRS or HSDPA networks.

Johan Tysklind, marketing director for mobile computing at Sony Ericsson, said: "The MD300 is the first offering in our forthcoming portfolio of mobile broadband products that will combine Sony Ericsson's dependability with a stylish form factor."

Earlier this week, Sony Ericsson announced a new PlayNow interactive system, which will be built into mobile phones and will have broadband-based content.
