T-Mobile has signed a five-year deal with BT Wholesale, which will enable the internet service provider (ISP) to offer faster mobile broadband speeds.

The ISP will improve its backhaul capacity by linking base stations with faster land-line connections.

It is thought that this deal, which BT Wholesale has also secured with Three, could be worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

T-Mobile and Three join fellow mobile broadband providers O2 and Vodafone, which entered into a contract with BT Wholesale earlier this year.

Emin Gurdenli, technology director at T-Mobile UK, told the Financial Times: "This agreement with BT will make sure backhaul [the backbone connections of the network] is not a constraint now or in the future at a time when T-Mobile is experiencing strong growth in mobile broadband and other mobile data services."

Last week, T-Mobile released a dock for its mobile broadband USB stick which enables users to share their internet connection.

The item is equipped with Wi-Fi and is available to buyers of the mobile broadband services as part of their monthly fee.

However, it is not yet certain how those who are already subscribed will be able to acquire one of the gadgets or how much it will set them back.

While it is possible to achieve wireless networking through the USB modem, this is difficult and requires a certain amount of technical knowledge, according to experts at ISP Review.

It is available for £20 each month and can be used anywhere in the UK where there is network coverage.
