UK mobile broadband to get boost from 3 UK, T-Mobile?

Mobile broadband is certainly on the up these days.
It was recently suggested by Akamai that the amount of internet content accessed by people on smartphones and laptops around the world is currently soaring.
And it's not just individual consumers making use of the technology.
Companies, too, are finding there are loads of benefits that come with mobile broadband.
According to Orange's Business Index, data usage on mobile broadband gadgets grew by a whopping 150 per cent across the networks' entire business customer base.
Small to medium-sized enterprises, in particular, are jumping on the bandwagon, using 290 per cent more data in 2009.
And it could be that mobile broadband gets even more of a boost this year.
It has been announced by T-Mobile and 3 UK that their joint infrastructure upgrade programme should be completed by the end of 2010.
This will mean it's the biggest shared network in Europe and offer mobile customers the most wide-ranging coverage in the UK too.
Commenting on the news, Stephane Teral, principal analyst for mobile and FMC fixed-mobile convergence infrastructure at Infonetics Research, said that a typical network can already sustain users who consume 1GB every day, which is "huge".
He suggested this is something that will have to be taken into consideration by T-Mobile and 3 UK.
"Basically, the operator needs to design the network by figuring out how many users will be heavily using the network, and how much capacity they are consuming," he said.
Mr Teral went on to add: "The way things are going there is good reason to believe that we want to migrate as many existing 2G/2.5G subscribers to 3G. Consequently, you need to provide them with the same coverage as that of 2G/2.5G."
