Virgin Media unveils new mobile broadband deal

Tuesday 1st December 2009, by Daniel King

Virgin has launched a new deal for those who like to have broadband to go.

The internet service provider announced it is to offer a new 7.2 Mb mobile broadband dongle, which, it said, will help customers check emails, stream video and surf the web while on the go.

Fans of watching television via the internet may be particularly interested in the service, since the firm claimed it will provide less stuttering while playing items on BBC's iPlayer or YouTube.

Graeme Oxby, executive director of mobile at the company went further in saying it will make being online a faster and more pleasant experience for consumers.

Described as a "super-quick" offering, the deal has been developed on the back of the success of the 3.6 Mb version.

It offers people the choice of packages that suit their needs and preferences in terms of contracts and data limits.

For example, customers will be able to choose from a flexible one-month rolling contract, or an 18-month service agreement, as well has having the option of either 1 GB or 3 GB of downloads each month.

Mr Oxby commented: "We're thrilled to be offering this faster mobile broadband to our users.

"If you're not at home or near a wireless connection, mobile broadband is the best way of staying connected on the move."

People who sign up to the Virgin bundle packages and receive television, internet and phone services may also benefit from another development from the company.

It has joined forces with Tivo to produce its next generation television platform set top boxes, which will deliver the best user entertainment experience, it said.
