UK visitors to Hong Kong are in for a treat now that 100 taxis on the Chinese territory are connected to a high-speed broadband network.
Vodafone and Hong Kong mobile phone operator SmarTone are currently offering a free trial of their mobile broadband. Access is provided via a USB modem connection.
SmarTone-Vodafone recently extended the free 14.4 mbps broadband service to workstations in Hong Kong shopping centres, gyms and bars.
A spokesman for Vodafone said taxi passengers will enjoy the "innovative service".
"SmarTone-Vodafone has made a special effort to develop communication services that will make your Hong Kong stay more pleasant and more productive," he added.
Thousands of people have already used the service, and there are reports that passengers are continuing with their broadband session when their cab has arrived at its destination, according to TelecomTV.
