Wi-Fi expansion reaches popular coach route

Wi-Fi expansion reaches popular coach route The expansion of wireless internet across public areas in the UK appears to be unrelenting, as Stagecoach confirms it will be continuing its Wi-Fi service on the Oxford Tube.

Passengers travelling on the London to Oxford route, the most frequent express coach service in Europe, will now have web access to speeds of up to 1.4Mbps after an initial trial proved successful.

The free service, provided by Moovera Networks and Vodafone UK, has been used more than 32,000 times with the average session reaching 41 minutes over the trial period.

"The success of the Stagecoach Wi-Fi service clearly demonstrates the demand for high-speed internet connectivity on public transport", said Jim Baker, CEO and founder of Moovera Networks.

"Providing free 'always-on' broadband access on routes frequented by commuters, students and tourists is a significant way for bus, coach and train operators to distinguish their service from others and increase passenger footfall."

Wi-Fi services have also been rolled out in busy locations such as Leicester Square and Canary Wharf in London, as well as some regional airports.
