Wi-Fi is still 'the best user experience' at 25 years old

Wireless internet is leading the boom in mobile internet devices and making it possible to stay connected anytime, anywhere, says an expert.
Chris Davies, general manager at D-Link, believes that wireless provides mobile internet users with a top-notch service for staying in touch while on the move.
He said: "Wi-Fi has made the anywhere lifestyle possible, allowing us to access information anywhere, anytime. Without Wi-Fi, there would not be the boom in mobile internet devices that there is today and user demand for the next-generation of mobile devices, such as the iPad."
So where would we be without mobile internet? Literally lost, now that we can access global positioning systems on our mobile phones!
This week (May 24th) marks the twenty-fifth birthday of Wi-Fi after the Federal Communications Commission allowed "unlicensed access to the radio spectrum" all those years ago.
From this time, doors have been opened for the 802.11 committee to develop wireless technologies, leading to the Electrical and Electronics Engineers establishing a wireless standard network in 1997.
Since then, Wi-Fi has allowed us to email, surf the web and download music, games and films anywhere we like and its popularity has been proven by a survey, earlier this year, from the Wi-Fi Alliance.
The findings showed that 74 per cent of people wanted to use it for watching TV and films, more than 70 per cent found wireless handy for connecting their computers to a printer and more than half were simply interested in using the power of Wi-Fi to link an mp3 with a music library.
I think this is proof enough to wish Wi-Fi a very happy birthday!
