Wireless broadband 'increasingly popular'

Wireless broadband is becoming increasingly popular with web users who are looking to stay connected while on holiday, an expert has claimed.
Alison Couper, communications director at Expedia, said the internet has now become "an integral tool in the fabric of modern living".
As a result, more people are using Wi-Fi connections to keep in touch via their laptops and internet-enabled mobile phones rather than relying on traditional desktop computers.
"Whether at home or abroad it is important for people to be able to go online - whether it's to contact friends and family, catch up on work emails or book the next part of their trip," she commented.
However, Ms Couper pointed out that it is vital that wireless broadband users are aware of the costs involved in connecting to networks in public places such as airports, cafes and hotels.
A recent study by Expedia found that Wi-Fi rates in Europe are more expensive than anywhere else across the globe.
It also revealed that hotels with a lower star rating are more likely to offer free wireless broadband access than international or five-star establishments, meaning travellers may wish to downgrade their level of accommodation to cut costs.
Ms Couper said: "Expedia recommends planning ahead and calling your hotel in advance to find out how much they charge."
She added that web users and business travellers may also wish to seek out more cost-effective options for connecting to wireless networks, such as visiting internet cafes in the local area.
