Our O2 Mobile Broadband Review

About O2

With O2 Mobile Broadband, you can get quick web connectivity on the go, with different contract lengths and allowances available.  Using the small dongle with preloaded data, you can plug in and connect to the mobile internet service when you need to get online.

O2 is known as a leading mobile network provider, so mobile broadband is not its main business, but you still have a choice of deals available, which represent great value for money.  The deals can vary, but you’ll usually find a 1-month rolling contract offered with either 1GB or 2GB of data. O2 Mobile Broadband is ideal for getting online for a few minutes at a time and checking emails, updating social media, reading news and visiting your favourite sites.

Equipment

A dongle comes with an allowance of monthly data, and you simply plug it into the

USB socket and connect through 3G or 4G.  There would need to be coverage available in order to get online, but it gives you a great solution to web access on the go.

You can also get an O2 Pocket Hotspot which acts like a portable Wi-Fi hub.  It connects to the mobile web service, and you can get different devices online with it.

Customer Service

O2 offers live chat online so you can easily get hold of customer support without phoning, and there are a number of FAQs answered in depth on the website.

If you want to speak directly with the customer service team you can call the Pay Monthly team on 0344 809 0202, or the Pay & Go team on 0344 809 0222.  Standard rates apply for both.  The teams are available from 8am till 9pm Monday to Friday, 8am till 8pm on Saturday and 9am till 6pm on Sunday.

Line Rental

Mobile broadband does not require line rental, which helps to keep the cost down.  You just pay for your allowance, which will be a set amount on pay monthly contracts, or a topped up amount on Pay & Go.

Package Features

With an O2 Mobile Broadband deal you’ll get the dongle or Pocket Hotspot, but there may be an additional upfront fee for the device.  This will be clearly indicated before you purchase.

The device comes pre-loaded with data when you choose Pay Monthly, and you’ll have this allowance each month.

Availability

Mobile broadband relies on the coverage of 3G and 4G.  The advantage is that this lets you connect on the go, but it also means variable and unpredictable speeds, as well as connectivity.

FAQs

How fast is O2 Mobile Broadband?

The maximum speed you could achieve through 3G on O2 would be 7Mbps, but the actual average will vary, depending on a range of factors including local web traffic on that network.

What is a Pocket Hotspot?

This is a portable Wi-Fi device, which connects to 3G or 4G.  As the name suggests, it easily fits into a pocket and is a great way to get online whilst out and about.  You can connect multiple devices to its signal, although too may devices will restrict the speed.

O2 Mobile Broadband User Reviews

O2 Mobile Broadband is brilliant

I am really enjoying using O2 Mobile Broadband and I am receiving excellent download speeds. The dongle is really easy to use and very handy when you can't connect to the internet any other way. I recommend anyone considering mobile broadband to go with O2.

Friendly customer services

When I received my dongle, I had no idea how to use it. When I rung customer services, the friendly person over the phone explained to me how it works and what I should do. Turns out I was over-complicating it and it is in fact very easy to use mobile broadband.

Quick connection

O2 is a great provider for mobile broadband. I like to browse the web when I'm in a coffee shop and a dongle gave me better download speeds than the shop's Wi-Fi. The contracts are short-term, with a generous allowance.

Short-term contract is ideal

I took a one-month mobile broadband contract with O2 and I was very happy with the service. I knew nothing about dongles and the person over the phone was happy to talk me through how it all works. Although I now have fixed-line broadband, a dongle is excellent as a temporary solution.
