Schools and hospitals across the different regions will be among the first organizations to benefit from the improved speeds.
Thousands of homes and businesses in 10 counties across the UK will have access to ultrafast broadband by the end of next year.
Aberdeen, Coventry, Warwickshire, Bristol, West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and West Sussex are among the locations selected by the UK government to pilot a brand-new £10 million scheme which will see the installation of ultrafast 1Gbps broadband.
The project is part of a £200 million four-year plan designed to stimulate the growth of full fibre broadband throughout Britain which was announced by Chancellor Philip Hammond during the Spring Budget back in March.
“For our economy to thrive, it is vital we make smart investments to ensure our digital infrastructure is world class and fit for the future,” said Andrew Jones, the exchequer secretary to the Treasury. “Full fibre connections are the gold standard and we are proud to announce the next step to get Britain better connected."
Hospitals and schools will reportedly be the first to benefit from the new technology which will allow them to really expand their functionality. Teachers for example, will be able to stream educational videos to pupils who're unable to make it into class.
The remaining £190 million is set to spent by 2020/21 on various other projects aimed at improving broadband speeds in the UK, and is actually part of the Government's larger £23 billion National Productivity Investment Fund which aims to increase UK living standards by upping productivity.
