Homes and businesses will soon be able to receive speeds of up to 1Gbps.
Gigabit provider CityFibre has officially started work on bringing ultrafast speeds to Coventry.
Their next-generation full-fibre network will first be extended out to serve homes and businesses in the suburb of Longford before moving onto Upper Stoke, Foleshill and Holbrooks.
As well as allowing residents to enjoy streaming, gaming and browsing the internet at lightning-fast speeds the new full-fibre infrastructure is expected to have huge economic benefits.
Research conducted by economic consultancy firm Regeneris found that it could cause the local housing market to increase by up to £101 million.
“With the advent of ultrafast, full fibre broadband, residents of Coventry will be able to enjoy and take advantage of a range of possibilities,” said Leigh Hunt, the city development manager for CityFibre in Coventry.
The initiative, which is being carried out in partnership with Vodafone, aims to bring full fibre broadband to up to one million UK premises by 2021.
Coventry is the fourth city in the UK to benefit from the project after Peterborough, Aberdeen and Milton Keynes.
Currently, fibre broadband is available to less than 5% of home and businesses across the UK.
