EE has created a temporary 4G network specially for next month’s Glastonbury festival.

The mobile provider has been in charge of 4G for the festival since 2011, but has claimed that this year will be the biggest undertaking yet.

EE customers are expected to use around 15TB of data over the five days of the festival, which is being headlined by acts such as Coldplay and Adele.

This figure is said to be 20 times the amount that festival goers used in 2011, the last time Coldplay headlined.

EE has been planning the network for around 9 months, with mobile stations being installed as the month of the festival looms.

As well as extra mobile stations, EE has also tripled the amount of radiowaves used in order to keep up with the increased demand.

Director of Brand at EE, Spencer McHugh, said that Glastonbury and other big UK events had become huge mobile data hotspots.

“2016 has already seen 4G data usage increase by at least 40% at other major events year-on-year and this trend shows no sign of slowing down.”

“Each year social media feeds all over the world are flooded with images and videos of Glastonbury Festival so, in anticipation of the huge demand we expect to see at Worthy Farm this June, we’ve tripled our 4G capacity thanks to a number of new innovative network technologies.”

As well as providing 4G, EE will also be on hand with charging stations which allow festival goers to charge their mobile devices.

EE also plans to release a companion app for those going to and watching the festival, with live coverage of the acts and a map of the festival site.
